What is Deductible?
The total amount of money you will have to pay out of pocket before your insurance begins to assist with paying for your appointments or procedures. Your insurer sets it, and it typically resets once a year.
As an illustration, consider this: John is covered by a $500 deductible plan. They consult a psychiatrist, who charges $250 per appointment. John agreed to cover the entire cost of the first and second appointments. John's $500 deductible has been satisfied. John's insurance would begin to pay for all or part of all subsequent visits (not only with that psychiatric, but for any additional care Devon receives), with Devon either paying a copay, coinsurance, or nothing at all, depending on their plan.
