Do you have more than one insurance plan (primary vs. secondary insurance)?

Some patients have multiple insurance plans. The primary insurance is billed first, and the secondary insurance covers costs not paid by the primary insurer. Sometimes claims are denied due to “coordination of benefits,” which means the insurance on file may not be your primary one.

What to do:

  1. Contact your insurance company using the number on the back of your insurance card.
  2. Inform them that you need to update your "coordination of benefits" to designate the correct primary insurance. Note the representative’s name and request a call reference number.
  3. Email us at billing@texasbehavioral.com with the representative’s name and call reference number.

If the denied claim involves your secondary insurance and we don’t have your primary insurance on file:

Email us at billing@texasbehavioral.com with pictures of both sides of your primary insurance card. We’ll update your account and charges accordingly.
